Daniel was talking about the latest iteration of Waferbaby being written using Ruby on Rails. Given that I had been involved with his Pyndrop project, to write a Python web framework, I thought I'd see if that Rails thing I'd been hearing about was any good given that Daniel seemed impressed.

Anyway, after a bit of reading I was also impressed so I thought I'd try rewriting my site, Junkheap in Rails too. I'd just started writing it again in PHP as the old codebase was about 3 years old and unmaintainable due to me being a PHP newbie when I wrote it.

When I mentioned my interest on Daniel's dev mailing list he said:

i wish i'd properly documented the whole process of building the site. maybe you can, and i can then live vicariously through you!

... and the rest is history! Well, it's this site at least.
